Their Story

Occupation:  Kevin is Delivery Supervisor for Southern Glazers Wine and Spirits,  Erika is a surgical scrub tech on a labor and delivery unit.

How we met:  The first day of school freshman year of high school, Kevin asked Erika for a piece of gum, which she made sure to always have thereafter. They dated on and off during HS and after graduation went their separate ways.  23 years later Erika got a Facebook friend request from him and they politely commented on each other’s posts for a few months then decided to meet up for a lunch date. It lasted 6 hours and they have seen each other every day since.

Hometowns:  Spokane born and raised for both of them.

First real date:  They were talking on the phone and Erika mentioned that it would be a nice night for a fire pit and drinks, but she didn’t have either.  A few hours later Kevin texted and asked for her address. He showed up with a fire pit (he had to go to 3 stores) and some beer.  They stayed out in Erika’s yard by the fire pit till 5 a.m, when Kevin had to leave and go to work.

Proposal Story: We were in Cabo, and had planned a day trip to Lovers Beach. What Kevin didn’t know was that the water taxi could not land the boat due to rough water.  When the boat trip ended, Kevin suggested we walk up to Cabo Wabo and see if Sammy Hagar was in the bar (he was supposed to be in town) and get some lunch.  He asked the waitress if she would take our picture up on stage and he all of a sudden dropped to one knee and pulled out a ring.  Both the waitress and I were totally shocked, she kept asking if that was real.  Kevin was upset that it didn’t go down the way he had planned but I love it, it’s totally us.

Day in Three Words:  Perfectly imperfect and just fun. Our friends and coworkers are still saying it was the best wedding they have been to.

Ceremony

Wedding time:  3:30PM

Number of guests:  100 invited, 90 showed up

Wedding Day Weather: Rain all day, light rain at the time of the ceremony which allowed us to be outside.

Wedding Colors & Theme: The colors were rose gold and deep burgundy. The theme was vintage things I love and centered on family and friends. We wanted to just have a party, celebrate us and 4 birthdays on that date.

Favorite ceremony moment:  For Erika, it was the fact that she could hear Kevin’s reaction to seeing her for the first time.  The DJ had an equipment failure and Erika ended up walking down to the alter without music, this allowed her to hear Kevin say “holy shit”.  Kevin really liked the unity cocktail.  They both had a glass and poured their individual drinks into a single glass.

“It would be impossible to decipher, or pull apart the exact drops that once belonged to each other. They are forever entwined, creating something even more wonderful than the individual.”

Reception

First Dance song: My Person by Spencer Crandall

Favorite reception moment: The whole thing. Watching our loved one’s drink, dance, eat, laugh and enjoy themselves.

Traditional or Non-traditional Elements: Non-traditional. We had a whisky barrel top as a guest book as well as a Unity cocktail. At the reception, we had a cigar bar and a Jenga table where people could write on the pieces. We had a corn hole game but didn’t put it out due to the rain.

All In the Details

Wedding dessert:  3-layer cake (lemon, raspberry, poppyseed almond).  Huckleberry cheesecake, cupcakes for all the birthdays!

Splurge:  My dress, I never wear sparkly things, it was way out of my comfort zone.  Kevin said open bar, his family can drink!  First-class tickets for the honeymoon.

Flowers and Centerpieces:  Flowers arranged in old silver tea sets placed onto of old book.

Surprise elements:  Just the rain, we rolled with it.

Advice: Trust the Commellini team, they have it dialed in. We didn’t know if we were going to be inside or outside due to the rain, our coordinator was awesome, kept us informed, had the weather map pulled up on her phone and just kept us all calm. The planning tools you provide were great, our in person meetings were smooth and made it all so easy.
